Sandra D. Davis M.A.
Certified Exceptional Education Teacher/Founder/Lead Tutor
Specializing in Specific Learning Disabilities with concentration in Reading, Writing and Oral Language
I bring with me an impressive background in the education field, academically and through life experiences. I am a world traveler and very knowledgeable about educating students with varying exceptionalities. I am a certified, degree professional in special education and speech science, with additional graduate hours in speech and language; an added endorsement in reading and several in-service hours in reading and writing. Exceptionalities that I have taught include, teaching children with Down's Syndrome, remediating articulation disorders, learning and language disabled, sensory disorders, Asperger diagnosed (part of the Autism Spectrum) and emotional and behavioral disorders. Also, I’ve worked as a professional speech/language therapist in the school setting.
As a result of the company I worked for closing, as an intensive reading teacher/tutor, I decided to fulfill my dream of owning my own business, thereby my reason for opening New Tampa Tutors, LLC. While working for this nationally known franchise, I observed firsthand the benefit students gained from tutoring one-on-one. Plus, I believe that supplemental education helps students to meet the enormous demands of school.
I have taught in the public school in different educational environments; resource, self-contained and co-teaching. I’ve taught in Colorado Springs, Colorado District Twenty and in the Hillsborough County School District. Additionally, I substituted in Hillsborough County School District in various K-12 environments, before going on to teach as a tutor and a private school teacher at a Learning Center in New Tampa. Also, due to my belief in students benefitting from tutoring, I have tutored voluntarily in the public school setting. I am organized, creative and innovative and this was displayed when I developed curricula and activities for the students I worked with in the school settings. I am passionate about helping all students learn and access the day to day school curriculum. Furthermore, my experiences extend to administering norm referenced achievement test and interpreting and sharing results. I especially enjoy and have concentrated my instructional experiences in teaching and assessing reading, oral language and writing to students with learning disabilities and those students who benefit from the learning of strategies to access the curriculum.
I received my undergraduate degree from the University of South Florida (Go Bulls!) and my graduate degree from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. I am a member of the Council for Exceptional Children.
